ABSTRACT

This workbook covers the practical application of a range of topics particularly relevant to teaching physical education. It has been specifi cally written to be used alongside the textbook, Learning to Teach Physical Education in the Secondary School: A Companion to School Experience (3rd edn, 2010) but could equally be used on its own. It is written primarily for student teachers, but should also be valuable to teachers in their early years of teaching. The pattern of teacher education and the context in which it takes place have undergone considerable change in recent years. Today the wide variety of initial teacher education (ITE) opportunities means that some student teachers may be attached to a university with considerable input from university tutors whereas others will be predominately working in a school with most learning being supported by specialist and non-specialist teachers. Further variations in patterns of ITE operate in other countries. This book is designed to prepare physical education teachers working in all these contexts.
