ABSTRACT

Ghana is an English-speaking nation in West Africa. Its population in 2011 was about 24 million and growing at a rate of around 2.9 percent per annum. The United Nations Human Development Index Report (2012) indicated that the population will reach 26.4 million in 2015 and 33 million in 2020. About 42 percent of the population in Ghana lives in urban areas, and the remaining 48 percent reside in the rural regions of the country. It is anticipated that the urban population may increase to about 46 percent in 2015 (UN Human Development Index, 2012).
