ABSTRACT

This chapter compares the ways in which the state has responded to the “microelectronics revolution” in Sweden and Denmark. In both countries, the responses can be termed neo-corporatist, in that they were based on alliances and agreements between the state and the interest organizations of the private sector. In both countries, the so-called national programmes in microelectronics/ information technology have been conceptualized not simply as government plans, but as joint undertakings by state institutions and private firms to contribute to the formation of a new kind of technological capacity.
