ABSTRACT
Slovenia is one of the smaller nations in Europe. Formerly part of Yugoslavia, it is squeezed between the upper reaches of the Adriatic Sea, the Alps and the Pannonian plains. Its population of 1.9 million live in a fertile territory of 20,251 sq km-the size of Wales or the state of New Jersey.
