ABSTRACT

Demographic indicators show that in 2009, the majority of the Jordanian population lived in urban centers (82.6 percent); the average family size was 5.4, with a total fertility rate of 3.8 for women ages 15–49; and Jordan had a natural population increase of 2.1 percent. The life expectancy for females was 74.4 years and was 71.6 for males (Department of Statistics 2011a). Although the majority of the Jordanian population was centered in urban areas, about 63 percent lived in the central region and 37 percent of the total population lived in the capital city of Amman (Department of Statistics 2011b).
