ABSTRACT

This chapter explores some of the challenges which arise for school leaders and managers in handling the conduct and behaviour of staff in schools. It deals with the procedures that apply at individual school level, on the part of the employer and at national level. The aim is to give school leaders a sense of what may be required of them in managing staff conduct issues and how their actions fit into the wider perspective of how the profession is regulated nationally. In the course of describing these practicalities, it recognises that ethical dilemmas may lie at the heart of many of the issues school leaders face.
