ABSTRACT
Pupils in the United kingdom (UK) are growing up in Europe and an understanding of Europe’s place in the world is important to them and their teachers. It is also interesting to examine the similarities and differences between schooling and education in some of the countries of Europe. This chapter describes and explains three trends:
• the trend towards European unification • the move towards conversion in matters of educational policy and practice • areas of radical difference between education systems in Europe.
