ABSTRACT
In this chapter we explore notions of what constitutes art and what kinds of meanings it holds, as well as discussing what kind of learning takes place within current art and design education. We will consider the significance of the cultural and social context within artistic production and consumption. We will also explore the role of art and design education in disseminating cultural and social values in education, celebrating both the diversity and the shared elements of human experience expressed through visual practice.
