ABSTRACT

As discussed in other chapters in this Handbook, classroom management is complex and nuanced, requiring an understanding of multiple perspectives as well as of varied bodies of knowledge. This is particularly true when considering classroom management from the perspective of inclusive settings. Without a safe and orderly learning environment, it is difficult for teachers and students to attend to the business of teaching and learning. Yet, in a survey from the National Center for Educational Statistics (2008), nearly 40% of responding teachers indicated that student misbehavior interfered with their teaching.
