ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION Single-case research designs are increasingly used in intervention research in psychology and education and have special application in experimental research on classroom management procedures and techniques. Th is methodology allows the researcher to structure an experiment in which replication and/or randomization can be used to document intervention outcomes while ruling out various threats to internal validity. Although methodologies in research on classroom management are diverse (Brophy, 2006), a rather large body of research in classroom management is based on investigations in which the researcher used single-case research design, and, for the most part, this research base emanates from the fi eld of applied behavior analysis (Landrum & Kauff man, 2006). In fact, the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis publishes the highest number of research articles in which singlecase design methodology is used, followed by Behavior Modifi cation and Research in Autism Spectrum Disorders (Shadish & Sullivan, 2011). Th ese journals typically feature intervention research investigations.
