ABSTRACT

B ill Chase was a remarkable person, scholar, and mentor. In this chapter I will briefly describe the collaborative research that we conducted on the acquisition of exceptional memory in unexceptional college students in the late 1970s and how this interactive research shaped and influenced me as an independent scientist. The main body of this chapter will focus on the research findings and theoretical ideas of this early research on acquired memory skill. The latter parts will describe how these ideas were later developed, extended, and generalized after Bill's sudden and unexpected death in 1983.
