ABSTRACT

This chapter undertakes an interpretative review of healthcare information sharing for stroke patients to examine existing users' requirements for mobile learning. It presents activity theory (AT) to figure out how the current work practices might be changed by the new artefact called RehabMaster Mobile. Whilst applying activity theory to the design of RehabMaster Mobile, several important characteristics required for community-based mobile learning, can be derived, specifically related to the health service. Information and communication technology (ICT) remains a significant challenge for many governments, health managers, healthcare practitioners and system developers. The chapter describes how stroke patients can be supported by mobile learning, in conjunction with the rehabilitation system, by exploring their interests, activities, characteristics and needs of community-based expansive learning. As to the hospital-based activity system, the patients and their caregivers can easily get some advice or information from psychiatrists or occupational therapists.
