ABSTRACT

The trends in the technological positions of OECD countries during the 1970s can be analysed at two different levels: that of the produc tion of technology and that of its international dissemination. At both these levels, analysis is based on input and output indicators of science and technology (S&T) which are now generally accepted. It should be noted from the outset that there is no unique measure in this field which is meaningful for all the different economies. This is why several variables are looked at in parallel.
