ABSTRACT

EVERY August, Fortune magazine publishes a list of the fifty largest U.S. exporters. The list contains, not surprisingly, such industrial giants as General Motors, IBM, Du Pont, and Eastman Kodak. What perhaps is more surprising is that the top fifteen firms on the list account for almost 20 percent of total U.S. exports and almost 30 percent of exports of manufactures. The entire group of fifty companies provides 30 percent of total and 45 percent of manufactures exports.
