ABSTRACT

One of the important aspects in the design of this Symposium was the desire to bring together scholars working in cognate fields, but viewing these fields from different perspectives. The outcome of the ensuing profitable interchange is evident in this final part. The literatures on strategic management and international business have tended to develop in quite separate directions. The theme of global competition does, of course, unite them, although the intellectual antecedents for both multi-disciplinary areas tends to differ. Yet there is a need for these approaches to be synchronised and for a renewed stress to be placed on the strategic capability of international companies faced with the emergence of global competition.
