ABSTRACT

In this chapter we explore young children’s ways of developing and communicating scientific understandings through their engagement in drama activities. We present how young children and their teachers drew upon, developed, and expressed scientific ideas as they enacted two drama activities: one in the Matter unit where children acted out molecules in the three states of matter (solids, liquids, and gases), and another in the Forest unit where children acted out animals, plants, and inanimate entities as part of a food web in a temperate forest.
