ABSTRACT

Much of the EJ research has focused on firms’ or other organizations’ siting decisions to explain minority-collocated environmental disamenities. Indeed, the “environmental racism” claims made by EJ advocates include arguments that harmful intentionality is key in disamenity placement. As such, with EJ a key component of any sustainable future envisioned, this chapter discusses theoretical rationales regarding firm placement and tests whether assumptions about the firm can explain environmental injustice outcomes.
