ABSTRACT

The region of Campania in south-west Italy (Figure 10.1) is divided into five provinces: Naples, Avellino, Benevento, Caserta and Salerno. About 25 percent of all of protected areas in Italy is found within this region, the capital city of which is also Naples. Campania is notable as the most densely populated region of Italy and also one of the nation's poorest regions.
