ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the principles of Evidence-Based Practice (EBP), including definition and brief historical development, along with a guide to relevant websites and evidence-based clinical guidelines to ensure that the reader is aware of how and where to access condition-specific evidence-based information. Clinical Evidence covers a range of common or important clinical conditions seen in primary and hospital care. Cochrane Library website is considered to be the first resource for information about the effects of health care interventions, and it includes the Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects (DARE), the Health Technology Assessment (HTA) and NHS Economic Evaluation Database (NHS EED). Clinical Knowledge Summaries (CKS) site provides clear and explicit guidelines for primary care in the UK. Turning Research Into Practice (TRIP) searches a range of evidence-based sites such as Clinical Evidence, CKS, National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and simultaneously runs a PubMed search.
