Editors' Introduction

Kant's claim that geometry is synthetic a priori is very important to him. It's the basis of one of his main arguments for transcendental idealism. (What exactly transcendental idealism amounts to is the subject of Part 12). But many readers find it hard to believe that geometry is synthetic instead of analytic. They suspect that Kant's way of thinking about geometry is out of date or just plain wrong.
