ABSTRACT

Nuble is a province of Chile with a population of 400,000. Health-related activities are organized by the Nuble Health Service through various health programmes. The chapter describes the development of health education in Nuble since the 1950s. Health education was given official status in 1978. In 1982, the Health Education Committee (HEC) was created to oversee health education activities. It is particularly concerned with the training of the different health personnel who work in the health teams. Health education activities are closely monitored by the HEC through a reporting system, and evaluation has a high priority.

At present, health activities in Chile are carried out by the health services national system under the control of the Public Health Ministry, which has the task of regulating the health activities for the whole country. The health services are bodies created to carry out integrated activities in a co-ordinated way for fostering protection, recovery and rehabilitation.
