ABSTRACT

Summary: Various agencies are encouraging the introduction of new information technologies (NIT) into all courses at post-compulsory level in the United Kingdom. This has wide-ranging implications for all teachers, designers and administrators of these courses. Whilst some are knowledgeable and aware of NIT, many are not. This chapter explores some of the reasons for widely introducing the basics of NIT to all staff, some of the problems in facilitating and disseminating innovations within a context of professional development and describes an attempt to help provide basic awareness training, support and encouragement for those staff in post-compulsory education who claim to be ‘NIT naive’ and wish to gain knowledge of the implications and potential of NIT in education.
