ABSTRACT

The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) sports comprise Football, Hurling and Camogie. All three sports involve goal shooting and passing the ball or sliothar which require the skilled actions of kicking/striking and hand-passing. GAA coaching resources have identified striking the ball with the hurley (stick) in Hurling and kicking in Football as two of the most important skills within each game. These are the most common methods of passing and scoring goals in both sports. Within these categories there seems to be a wide range of techniques used, with Daly (1993) noting that Football has a greater variety of kicks than any other kicking sports.
