ABSTRACT

Strategy can be inferred in observational studies by considering patterns of behaviour. The selection of events performed, players involved, timing of events, the order in which events are performed and the location of those events can all indicate the strategy being adopted. The effectiveness of different strategies can be investigated by considering the success of performers adopting those strategies. The strategies of winning and losing performers within competitions can be compared. Alternatively, the strategies of performers reaching different stages of tournaments can be compared. The general aim of the current research was to investigate strategy within show jumping.
