ABSTRACT

Maintaining a balanced position on a horse is the basis for achieving the best performance whilst engaging in equestrian activity. The relationship between horse and rider is understood to be complex (Blokhuis et al., 2008; Visser et al., 2003). The performance of a rider can be affected by many variables including their balance and aspects of the horse–rider interaction. Other variables can also affect rider position including the horse's temperament, conformation and the speed at which the horse is travelling (Meyners, 2004; Blokhuis et al., 2008).
