ABSTRACT

According to Kwitniewska et al. (2009), ‘the fast tempo of movement and the large number of sporting actions, make evaluating the performance a complex and difficult task’. Especially, the evaluation of qualitative factors (grace, expressivity, creativity, composition between music and movements) is highly influenced by subjective bias. Thus choreography analyses are mainly focussed on quantifiable

parameters such as the number of body and apparatus techniques, and space utilisation. However, those analyses may help to rank performances, to create databases and performance profiles of individual athletes. Additionally, it facilitates to describe the current performance level and development trends in this complex sport. 32.2 AIM The aim of this study is to use choreography analyses to clarify the most influencing indicators of performances in Rhythmic Gymnastics, to determine the current performance level and the trends of development. This knowledge is required for an active training and competition control. The following research questions are discussed:

1. What kinds of pivots were performed and how many revolutions were demonstrated?
