ABSTRACT
‘White Power’ music is an international phenomenon. Nowadays, in countries such as Germany, it is the most important medium used to attract young people to the extreme-right movement. Through the lyrics the musicians spread ‘old’ Nazi messages and racist ideology. First of all, this chapter defines the terms used for this kind of music in Germany and gives a brief summary of the development of the music scene. We focus in particular on the situation in Germany. With the largest ‘White Power’ music scene and market worldwide, it is an impressive example of the importance of music to the extreme right. Subsequently, the chapter addresses the relevance of this kind of music to the socialization of teenagers and its potential for the mobilization of the extreme-right movement and its political parties.
