ABSTRACT

Wars are not only fought with arms but also — and sometimes more importantly — with words. The successful discursive justification of war is crucial for the mobilisation of fighters, followers and those financing the war, as well as for gaining international recognition and support. Just as wars are fought in the discursive arena, so is peace. Peace is often heavily contested and controversial. ‘What peace? Whose peace? Peace on what terms?’ These are questions that come to mind.
