ABSTRACT
Climate change and the search for effective disaster risk reduction measures are inviting us to revisit history. Climatologists and statisticians alike are busy examining weather patterns of the past, in order to establish whether climate change is real and different from climate variability, and to assess its impact compared with past events. It has become normal to proclaim that climate change will exacerbate disaster events worldwide in an unprecedented manner.
