ABSTRACT

What is the ultimate goal or the main purpose of institutions of higher education? Is it to educate students to become fully developed whole persons, to discover new facts or theories, or to train students to be specialists in a certain field? While generating new knowledge and training students to become masters in certain professional fields may be important, however, the essential goals of the universities and colleges should be student-centered, which means educating students to become well-rounded persons (Cardinal Newman, as cited in Cross, 2009; Kerr, 2009).
