ABSTRACT

Management skills and tools are necessary to run a spa profitably at a high-quality level. In Hungary, the country of thermal spas and springs and numerous wellness and spa hotels, the general perception is that one can operate a spa with a very small margin, and the return on investment takes a very long time. The wellness hotels in Hungary usually have a spa or wellness department operating within the hotel for their in-house guests and in many cases they are open for the public as well. According to the interview results received from the hotel directors the spa is often quoted as the ‘money-burning’ department, where no profit or in the very best case a low profit can be generated.
