ABSTRACT

This case discusses the role of a public health system, the UK National Health Service, in providing medical treatments for inward patients (or international patients as they are known). The NHS is a publicly funded system of health, primarily financed through general taxation. It provides a comprehensive range of health services and treatment, the vast majority of which are available to United Kingdom residents free at the point of use. NHS Hospital trusts (acute trusts) provide services on behalf of the NHS.
