ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we proposed five guiding principles that could be embraced by cyberbullying researchers so that our work in this growing field would be supported by a solid foundation. We urged researchers to pursue multidisciplinary investigations to gain from the perspectives inherent in different fields. We also recommended that methods from both traditional bullying research and those of related fields be considered and included. The need for formative research and research that examines the methods being used should be evaluated for their usefulness in accumulating a solid scientific knowledge base. Finally, we considered that the new technologies and the new possible tools for cyberbullying research must be carefully considered to ensure that the respect and care for participants is infused throughout the work and in an ethical manner.
