ABSTRACT

India and China are large developing countries which have seen rapid economic growth rate in recent times. At the moment, both India and China are facing the same challenges of developing their national economy, eradicating poverty and protecting the environment. On the issue of climate change, both the countries are facing GHG mitigation pressure from developed countries. China and India share some common benefits and views on climate change. If they can co-operate, both countries can benefit from the negotiations with developed countries. But there is a difference on climate change position between India and China due to the existing gap on CO2 mitigation per capita and CO2 emission between these two countries. This article tries to analyse the basic background of India and China and their practice on Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects to compare the common and different positions of India and China on climate change.
