ABSTRACT

Although Belgium has been an autonomous country since 1830 it is almost impossible to speak about the general Belgian context, since Belgium consists of two major regions—Flanders and Wallonia. 1 The two regions have different languages and little intercultural exchange, they have separate educational systems, and most aspects of Church life are organized separately and independently. Most Belgians live in Flanders, however, and this chapter will focus on Flanders, which is also the context in which I myself work and live.
