ABSTRACT

This book is about gender, diversity, leadership and change in trade unions. We focus on these matters and the relationships between them, subjects which are rarely considered together and yet produce a significant mix for multi-layered analysis. The construction of each is complex; gender is about women and men, and also about diversity among and between them. Leaders and leadership are both the same and different, sometimes individual and sometimes collective, and have been extensively theorised in the business and management field but less in the field of trade union politics, and barely at all when it comes to gendered union leadership.
