ABSTRACT

Biophysical changes caused by climate change occur in a diversity of places producing different socio-economic and institutional effects (Eisenack, 2012). This chapter presents a case study in which changes in climate and economics resulted in a new agricultural system based on pivot centre irrigation. This agriculture draws on groundwater in the Río Segundo Basin located in Córdoba province in a semi-arid region of the Pampas in Argentina (Figure 7.1). The aim is to improve understanding of irrigation technology adoption and its social and environmental consequences in the Río Segundo Basin.
