ABSTRACT

Good health tends to be taken for granted, but it is the foundation for all other aspects of our lives. In the context of the theme of this book, health is the foundation for access to much that can be offered in society. Poor health can dominate the lives of individuals and those around them. The ultimate result of very poor health is, of course, an early death; the final denial of access! Whilst such a statement might seem melodramatic, arguments that will be presented in this chapter will demonstrate the full, tragic extent of poor health among people with learning disabilities.
