ABSTRACT

Gary Butler was a presenter at the Concepts of Access seminar series where he spoke about his experiences of working at the medical school, St George’s, University of London. He works as a training adviser, helping medical students understand how best to work with people with learning disabilities. He has written a book about his experiences, A New Kind of Trainer (Owen et al 2004). When Gary agreed to produce a chapter for this book, he decided that he would like to talk about two things: his job at St George’s, but also living with his fiancée Sharon. The way he chose to work on this chapter was to ask Jane Seale to interview him about his experiences and for Jane and Gary to work together to write up the interview as a chapter.
