ABSTRACT

Peer mentoring and peer supervision are introduced in this chapter as alternatives to traditional forms of supervision and mentoring, where an expert or senior professional provides guidance and support. Peer supervision is complimentary, necessary, and, at times, comparable to traditional supervision given the relatively novice status of the general field of sport and exercise psychology (SEP) in Europe, specifically in the Nordic countries. The authors of this chapter draw supporting evidence from previous literature, fundamentals from social capital theory, as well as their personal experiences by being members of a peer-supported SEP organization, the European Network of Young Specialists in Sport Psychology (ENYSSP).
