ABSTRACT

Contemporary Sport and Exercise Psychology (SEP) in Greece has developed rapidly since its introduction in Sport Science Departments in the 1970s. In the last 15 years, Greek sport and exercise psychologists have published a substantial number of studies in international journals (Papaioannou, Machaira, & Vari, 2013), organized several SEP conferences (e.g., 10th World Congress, 2001; 12th European Congress, 2007; 12 national congresses), developed national curricula and training programs for Greek coaches and Physical Education teachers, and developed programs for the training of sport psychologists such as those that are described in this chapter. Below we describe the requirements for practicing SEP in Greece and the education of practitioners in SEP. We focus on the master’s program in SEP at the University of Thessaly (UTh), which belongs to a network of European institutions specializing in SEP, and we provide details of the practicum in this program. Describing this master’s program, we will portray how the European Integration process in Higher Education affected its development.
