ABSTRACT

All the sins of the past, those of omission and those of commission, can now be wiped out as with a damp sponge, with one stroke of the pen all the old contentions can be blotted out and forgotten; and on the clean white page may be written the new Charter for the settlement, framed with wisdom, mildness and discretion, but always tempered with a proper firmness. Thus this colony may be given a new lease of life, and, by God's mercy, may become in time one of the most important possessions of the State.
