ABSTRACT

Marmot states that the key priority for addressing health inequalities is to, ‘Give every child the best start in life’. This chapter explores some of the key processes required to implement this objective and the essential qualities which make a difference to children’s early years health and development. As Marmot recognises, action is required across agencies to address health inequalities. The question underpinning this chapter is whether key processes within the infant mental health literature can be shared in childcare settings to improve practice and children’s wellbeing. Currently educational perspectives dominate in the majority of childcare settings in relation to improving children’s health and wellbeing.
