ABSTRACT

The Marmot Review Policy Objective B states the need to ‘Enable all children, young people and adults to maximise their capabilities and have control over their lives’. The recommendations within that objective place significant weight on the time children spend in full-time education. Recommendations therefore include direction to:

Extend the role of schools in supporting families and communities and taking a ‘whole child’ approach to education;

Have consistent implementation of the full range of extended services in and around schools;

Develop the school-based workforce to build their skills in working across school-home boundaries and addressing social and emotional development, physical and mental health and well-being.
