ABSTRACT
Recently, political scientist Richard L. Fox (2011) reviewed several research articles to conclude that five aspects of politics need to be studied for their connection to gender: perceptions of men vs. women candidates, local electoral politics because this has not been studied as state and national elections have been, socialization because women and men may still grow up with very different ambitions and ideas for themselves, the continuing gains of women within the Democratic party and losses in the Republican party, and the influence of women leaders as role models. Despite years of social science literature discussing the involvement of women of color in politics, Fox never mentions the intersection of race, class and gender as an area to be studied.
