ABSTRACT

I began my career in the 1980s as an early years teacher, working in a variety of inner city nursery schools in London and Bristol. Over 15 years later, I applied to become a doctoral researcher. At the same time I enrolled in a degree in fine arts. As a teacher with early years experience, this was exciting— the opportunity to conduct research into young children’s art practices, and do this at the same time as I was undertaking art education myself, as a learner.
