ABSTRACT

In this concluding chapter, the main findings of the book are summarized and lessons about what is necessary to create successful teacher development programmes are drawn. Here, a programme is deemed as “successful” if it achieves its desired outcomes, which—as is discussed below—can be many. This chapter discusses programme effects that are not published elsewhere and goes through the classification of existing models, different ways to measure impact as well as the comparability of programmes. Aside from this, this chapter summarizes the factors that have been shown to have an effect on teacher development programmes in this book, and brings forward suggestions for newly established programmes. Moreover, it proposes recommendations for managers who are engaged in the (re-) design of teacher development programmes together as well as an agenda for future research.
