ABSTRACT

The idea of founding its own publishing house to market printed items beyond the artistic portfolios came up already during the first years of the Weimar Bauhaus. Drafted in 1921, the 1922 constitution announced that financial independence should be increased by profiting from the revenues of a publishing house run by the school. So in considering the various publication projects, such as the founding of the Bauhaus-Verlag (see below), it must always be kept in mind that the Bauhaus aimed to use them to tap new sources of money. 1
