Land and the centrality of biomass

‘The Anthropocene: A New Epoch of Geological Time?’ is the title of an issue of Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society published in early 2011 (Williams et al. 2011). It discusses whether man has ushered in a new geological era, the era of mankind, with human impact on the biosphere having become so decisive that it has reached geological dimensions.
