ABSTRACT

This chapter reports on a small-scale research study at one institution that examined staff and Master’s students’ perceptions about assessment practices, and in particular about the role of feedback in students’ learning. The study was funded by the University’s Teaching and Learning Committee as part of a series of initiatives designed to enhance the student experience. The university in which this study took place takes pride in its diverse and cosmopolitan community, with almost 4,000 international students from over 110 countries studying at the institution. Its international strategy aims to address internationalisation at home, encompassing internationalisation of the curriculum, developing students as ‘global citizens’ with cross-cultural understanding and skills and internationalisation abroad, to encompass strategic partnerships and networks, transnational education and international recruitment.
